Back to theFrankes.com
Several people -- many of them Frankes -- have asked for more information about Franke Family genealogy resources. Although this Web site is intended to be specific to our Franke family, it certainly makes sense to help out all the other Frankes out there that want to do a little research, too. So, on this page I'll try to keep an accurate account of the online resources I use to research Franke family genealogy. Hope this is helpful!

By the way, the next time the Mormons knock at your door, be sure to thank them -- they've done a great deal of family history research and data entry, plus they even provide FREE software to help you get organized -- and all without any blatant outreach nags. Way to go, Mormons!

Family Tree Browsers
My Family Tree
This is is single-page browsable family tree generated with the family tree browser software I created. If you're interested in a browsable version of your own family tree, contact me for information.

Genealogy Software
Personal Ancestral File (PAF)
FREE and excellent windows-based genealogy data management software provided by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. (Don't worry -- you don't need to be Mormon to use it.) You simply won't believe how easy and powerful this software is -- and it's FREE! You can download it by visiting the church's Family History Web site at http://www.familysearch.org/, click on "Order/Download Products" (near the top), then click on "Software Downloads - Free," select the latest version and follow the instructions.

Genealogy Research Websties
FamilySearch.org
Operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, this site is a great starting point for genealogical research. Specifically in the "Search for Ancestors" section, I've had several direct hits -- maybe you will too! Take some time to browse this site -- there's a lot of fantastic tools and resources!
Ancestry.com
Lots of information available here. Subscriptions are available for full access, but much is available without a subscription, too. Of particular interest are the Surname Message Boards in the "Share" section. Follow this link for the Franke message board.
RootsWeb.com
The (self-described) "oldest and largest FREE genealogy web site, supported by Ancestry.com." Lots of information here, too. Much is the same as on Ancestry.com. Follow this link for Franke Resources at RootsWeb.
Genealogy.com
Another great resource, including surname message boards. (Visit the Franke forum on Genealogy.com.) Take some time to browse this site as well.
Ellis Island AFIHC
The American Family Immigration History Center at Ellis Island. Search, find and *view* the original manifests and ship images for passengers who came to America through Ellis Island from 1892 through 1924. Also, search for inscriptions on Ellis Island's American Immigrant Wall of Honor. Very cool, indeed.
Germany GenWeb Project
Part of WorldGenWeb, a resource containing historical and current maps, general information, ship lists, databases, etc, specific to Germany. Also includes links to neighboring countries and regions -- remember that borders change... so did the whole calendar at one point!

Other Interesting Websites
Genealogy at About.com
Lots of information in this hosted Internet community, including beginner's guides, tips and even clipart links.
Designs of Wonder
Over 8,700 coats of arms from all over the world -- for FREE! A very cool site.
