  1. Again, thank you Axel!

Just a hint: Küstenmühle must have been a street in Stettin (you’re right, it is in Poland now), so Lotte or Charlotte must have moved within the city limits.

    Dear Lotte! Kiel, 30.4.15
Today, we had cloudy and cool weather, we were pretty spoiled by the beautiful days. Our zeppelines have been in England again. Hopefully the Russinas will be thrown out of the Carpathians and Galicia. How are you my dear?

    Dear Lotte! Kiel, 27.7.15
Yesterday evening, when I went ashore for a walk I met an old friend from the Gneisenau. I went ashore with him (the ship was in the dockyard) and we swapped old memories. I put yesterdays card, which I still had with me into the postbox there, as you might well see from the stamp. Many affectionate greetings from your truthful Ernst

Here, the prices for food have gone up too, butter 1,80 M, liver sausage 1,80, Mettwurst (salami-type of sausage) 2,60 M, ham 2,80 M etc. I hope the prices will go down soon. 2. Re card #2, Kiel, 17.10.16

KptLt. Mücke was the Executive Officer of the cruiser EMDEN. On the day the EMDEN was sunk by the Australian cruiser SYDNEY (November 9, 1914), he led a landing party ashore. He was able to sail with the men of the landing party, first with a old schooner, the AYESHA, afterwards with a steamer and later on Arabian dhows, to osmanian-held territory, continued to proceed by land and, eventually, reached Germany in the Spring of 1915, where he was celebrated as a hero.

    Greetings, Urs

  3. Urs: SET 3
#1 – Kapitän Karl von Müller was the commanding officer of the small cruiser EMDEN, one of the most famous German warships in WWI. During its short “career” from August, 4 to November, 9, 1914, it sank 23 allied merchantships with 102,000 tons and, on October, 23, during a raid against the harbour of Penang, the Russian cruiser “Shemtshug” and the French destroyer “Mousquet”. On November, 9, it fell victim to the superior Australian cruiser HMAS “Sydney” at Keeling Island in the North-East of the Indian Ocean. Captain Karl von Müller was and is considered in Britain to be a “Gentleman”, as he treated the captured allied sailors very well and as no allied sailor lost his life during the “Emdens” actions.
