Hier ist es auch schon recht kühl geworden, man merkt es, der Winter steht vor der Tür. – Auf dem Balkan werden wohl in Kürze wichtige Ereignisse vor sich gehen. Wenn Rumänien und Griechenland neutral bleiben steht für uns alles gut. Wenn wir den aktiven Anschluß an die Türkei erst haben, kann der Friede wohl nicht mehr fern sein.    Heute mal wieder tüchtig gearbeitet. Neue Kleiderwirtschaft macht viel Scherereien. Heute wieder von Vater eine Karte, Ferdinand ist auf Urlaub dort. Frug mich, ob nicht auch hinkommen könnte. Werde mal einen Anlauf wagen. Ferdinand geht bald ins Feld. Sei herzlich gegrüßt von Deinem treuen Ernst.

   Wie jetzt auch in der Zeitung stand, sind in Kiel Cholerafälle vorgekommen. Daher wird hier jetzt auch alles geimpft. Hoffentlich greift diese furchtbare Krankheit nicht weiter um sich. Heute will ich mal wieder zum Turnen gehen. Nächste Woche geht’s nicht, da ich an beiden Turnabenden wache habe. Sei vielmals herzl(ich) gegrüßt von D(einem) tr(euen) Ernst.

   The newspaper said there have been cases of cholera in Kiel. Therefore everyone is vaccinated here. Hopefully this horrible disease will not spread. Today I want to go to gymnastics again.    Jetzt sollen wir alle gegen Cholera geimpft werden. Dies kann mir nun gar nicht gefallen; die Impfung wird nämlich drei mal vorgenommen, jeden 4. Tag 1 mal und zwar jedesmal durch eine Spritze ca. 1 Kubikzentimeter Impfstoff unter die Brustwarze gespritzt. Man wird ca. 2 Tage krank dadurch.    Now everybody is to be vaccinated against cholera. I don’t like that at all; because the vaccination will take place in three steps, every 4th day 1 shot, by an injection of 1 cubic centimetre under the acromastium. You’ll be sick for days. Many affectionate greetings from your truthful Ernst.

   Habe Impfung gut überstanden. Sonnabend gibt es die zweite Ladung (doppelte Portion). – Semandria in Serbien ist jetzt auch in unserem Besitz und wird deshalb wohl jetzt der Vormarsch auf der ganzen Linie beginnen.    Overcame vaccination well. On Saturday there will be the next shot (double the dose).- Semandria in Serbia is ours now, and therefore the advance will begin along the line.    Morgen habe ich wieder Wache, dann ich mich erst der Aufarbeitung der von meinem Vater gewünschten Sache widmen.    Tomorrow I have watch – duty again. Only after that I can go to work on the matter my father wishes to be done. The whole week theweather was very nice – the so-called “Old-women-summer” (idiomatic expression for warm days in early autumn). How are you, my dear?
