3D Printed Detail Test, Stainless Steel

Here are the results and a key for the detail test that I had printed by Shapeways in stainless steel. The detail is quite remarkable. If this interests you, check out the 3D Printed Metric Hole Test Pattern and Key.

  1. Great test, Alex. It is amazing the amount of fine detail you were able to capture. That is truly an amazing process.

It would be interesting to print the same test samples in a plastic material. I would expect that the level of detail would be even more outstanding and that the surface finish would be much smoother. Some of the items on their website are almost unbelievable!

    Great fun…………….:-)

    • Thanks for your comments! I actually tried to print that same model using their White Strong & Flexible (WSF) material, but it was rejected because of the detail. It was the only WSF model in the order, and I believe they’re sent from different facilities, so I wonder if they were looking for a reason to cancel the order to save the shipping cost for a $2 order. I’ll try it again at some point.

I did also make the model available to other users for ordering in different materials, so hopefully I’ll get some feedback if other people order it…
